A double hunter is a hunter case twice over. The front lid closes over the dial in the usual way and springs open at the crown, and a second hinged cover at the back opens onto the movement instead of a plain caseback. You get the protection of a closed case from both sides and, when you want it, a view of the wheels turning without having to buy a cut-away dial. It is the most involved of the traditional case types and the one that appeals to people who like opening things.
Against Full Hunter Pocket Watches, the difference is only at the back: a full hunter has a solid, fixed caseback, a double hunter has a lid there. Against Skeleton Pocket Watches, the difference is when you see the movement: a skeleton dial shows it all the time, a double hunter shows it when you choose. And against Half Hunter Pocket Watches, where a window is cut into the front lid, the double hunter keeps the front solid and gives you the back instead.
This is a small collection and always has been. The pieces are hand-wound mechanical, in polished silver and gold tones, with Victorian-style decorated covers on several of them. Because it is small, the grid can thin out quickly, so if nothing here suits, the same case shapes and finishes are spread across the wider Pocket Watches collection.
We are Australian-owned and ship to New Zealand from Brisbane. In-stock orders are usually dispatched within one to two business days, Monday to Friday, with standard and express options, and standard shipping is free on New Zealand orders over $99. Made-to-order pieces take longer. The movement carries a 12-month warranty and change of mind is covered for 60 days, with the customer paying return postage. A matching chain is available separately.
It is a pocket watch with hinged covers on both the front and the back of the case. The front opens to the dial and the rear opens to show the movement.
A full hunter has one hinged lid at the front and a fixed caseback. A double hunter adds a second hinged cover at the back, so you can open the case onto the movement as well.
Yes, the double hunters we stock are hand-wound mechanical, so they need a daily turn of the crown and have no battery. The movement is covered by a 12-month warranty.
It has always been a small, specialist part of the range and out-of-stock pieces are hidden from the grid rather than shown as unavailable. The same case shapes in other finishes sit across the wider collection.
Yes. We dispatch from Brisbane, usually within one to two business days on in-stock orders, and standard shipping is free on New Zealand orders over $99.
Double Hunter Pocket Watches have hinged covers at both ends of the case: the front opens to the dial, the back opens to the movement. It is the most mechanical-feeling case we sell and the one collectors ask for by name.
This is a deliberately small shelf, in silver and gold tones and hand-wound mechanical throughout. Stock moves in and out, so check the grid before planning around a particular piece.
